Since 1968, Productivity has advanced CNC technology across the Upper Midwest machine tool industry, maintaining strong ties to local communities, technical colleges, and trade associations. When Manufacturing Success asked employees to share why the company has been successful, two questions were posed: one about overall company success, and one about day-to-day customer experiences. Despite coming from different roles and departments, every single respondent pointed to the same factor:
  • “It’s the people…”
  • “I have to say the people…”
  • “Definitely the people…”
  • “Hands down, the people…”
The feedback was unanimous: Productivity’s success comes down to the team behind the machines. Here is how one long-standing employee captured that mindset.

Why has Productivity been so successful?

Productivity leverages its experience to shape its future. Veteran employees bring institutional memory that helps refine proven methods, while leadership stays open to fresh ideas. Major initiatives, including MachinesUsed.com, the Preventive Maintenance department, and the Automation department, all originated directly from employee feedback.
The workplace gives staff the tools they need to excel. Departments work together directly so customers receive a complete, end-to-end package for their facility.

What is the experience like working with customers?

Helping a customer find the right person or product is always rewarding. You can hear the relief in a customer’s voice when they reach someone who can direct them to the exact solution they need. People want to feel good about their work, and Productivity creates an environment that supports that. Despite steady growth, every employee remains appreciated and respected regardless of position. Across the board, everyone focuses on finding better ways to serve the customer. Trusting employees to do the job they were hired to do builds confidence and pride, encouraging everyone to give extra effort every day. Management continues to invest in both staff and infrastructure. Building remodels have delivered improved training facilities, expanded showroom space, and larger inventory capacity to keep more products in stock. When unexpected issues happen, there is no finger-pointing. Instead, everyone pulls together to execute a “Plan B” so the customer experiences minimal delay. Dedication to customer success always comes first. Treating employees with respect creates a professional yet relaxed environment that translates directly to the customer experience. Productivity is not interested in the “quick sale”; the focus is entirely on building long-term relationships through reliable leadership, clear vision, and consistent service.
